For this year’s Avenue food awards, we took a new approach: the readers’ picks that came back in droves from our online survey were combed through and given the nod by our esteemed panel of judges. The reason for this, quite simply, was that some categories were just too close to call. So, we asked Avenue food writers John Gilchrist and Cinda Chavich, as well as our restaurant-savvy editorial team, to choose among those tiebreakers and settle any disputes.
